The craft of accessory plating has been around for centuries, but few know the process it entails, and the skill it takes to perfect the art. So, what is accessory plating? Accessory plating is the craft of covering the surface of accessories with a metal for a range of purposes. While many use it to provide decoration, it can also be useful to solidify an object, cover up corrosion, or for a variety of other functions.
Accessory plating comes in a selection of different finishes including gold plating, silver plating, nickel plating, and brass plating. The type of finish used depends on the accessory that is being plating. For example:
- Jewelry Plating – Gold plating is often used for jewelry plating due to its high quality, lustrous finish, and prevention of corrosion. It’s also been used for bicycle parts, pieces of art, and emblems.
- Antique Plating – Silver plating is a common finish for antique pieces, flatware, or tea sets due to its shine, quality, and ability to reinforce.
- Musical Instruments – Nickel plating is quite often used for the decorative plating of musical instruments, reinforcing hardware and guitar parts, or for decoration of art and auto parts.
- Kitchen Fixtures – Brass plating is perfect for custom light and interior fixtures in the kitchen. With professional accessory plating, polish, and lacquer, your kitchen will look like new.
